Appropriate Cleaning Methods to Restore Your New Orleans Property After Fire Damage

7/15/2018 (Permalink)

Fire damage can leave a residue on many types of surfaces. SERVPRO technicians have many efficient techniques to remove certain residues.

SERVPRO Technicians Use the Most Effective Techniques to Clean Residues After a Fire

Fire damage incidents require immediate action to avoid ending up with the need to refinish or replace your items - which are more costly options. Fires consume several items, and that means the use of several restoration methods is necessary. We are going to look at some of the methods that we use when restoring items after such incidents take place in New Orleans.

If our SERVPRO technicians discover the fire damage event in New Orleans left behind light-to-medium particles, then dry cleaning can be an option. We usually use this technique when residues are non-greasy, and when we need to do pre-cleaning as a way of removing the excess residues before introducing wet cleaning methods. During this cleaning method, we can use vacuuming or dry cleaning sponges to remove surface dust.

To remove moderate to heavy particles from surfaces, our SERVPRO technicians use a wet cleaning procedure. During this process, we thoroughly saturate the item we are cleaning using a cleaning agent or water. Since the particles we are dealing with are somehow heavier, the process is a little bit aggressive. Spray and wipe is a form of wet cleaning whereby we use a spray bottle to apply the cleaning product. We use the technique when it is necessary to control the cleaning product, in cases where saturation may cause more damage.

In some cases, upholstery fabrics can shrink, or its dyes fade after direct exposure to a cleaning agent. We avoid such, our SERVPRO team derives some foam from a cleaning agent and use it to do the cleaning in a method known as foam cleaning. The method is efficient when we are dealing with delicate materials that have light residues.

Our SERVPRO technicians can also use abrasive cleaning when there is a strong bond between the residues and the surface. When agitating the residues, we are careful not to leave scratches on the surface by applying a sufficient amount of the cleaning product so that there is enough lubrication.
